Xiaoquan (Michael) Zhang
Xiaoquan (Michael) Zhang is an Associate Professor of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
==Biography==
He is a graduate of the Tsinghua University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science, and a Master of Science degree in Management.
After graduation, he worked as a financial analyst and an international marketing manager. In 2000, he started to pursue his PhD degree at the MIT Sloan School of Management, under the guidance of Prof. Erik Brynjolfsson, Prof. John Little (academic) and Prof. Chrysanthos Dellarocas.
He joined the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2006. He won the Franklin Prize for teaching excellence in 2009. In 2010, he was named a Weilun Fellow at the College of Fellows of HKUST.
His research topics are related to: (1) IT in financial markets: disclosure, governance; (2) Online advertising: word-of-mouth, position auctions; (3) Social media: incentives and biases, information environment for managers/investors; and (4) Information goods: pricing, innovation incentives, long tail.
His research works have been accepted by prestigious journals such as American Economic Review, Management Science (journal), Management Information Systems Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and Journal of Marketing.
Michael Zhang was a co-founder of the MIT BBS, one of the most popular online social networks for Chinese-speaking people in the US. The Wall Street Journal reported this online community in 2004.
